Heraldic Crest. Ducie Coat of Arms: Unicorns & 'By persevering'. Catton c1790

by Catton, Charles/Chesham

Antique print of Ducie Coat of Arms c1790. Motto  “Perseverando” (By persevering - often interpreted as Never Say Die).

Original copperplate engraving by draughtsman, etcher, line and aquatint engraver Francis Chesham (1749-1806) from a drawing by Charles Catton (1756-1819) for “The English Peerage" printed on hand-laid paper of the period, and published in London circa 1790 (later hand-colour).

This small coat of arms has been separated at some time from the one that would have been above it on the same engraved plate. The hand-colour certainly adds to the appeal of this wonderful image. We have a number of Coats of Arms with Mottos from this series. Please enquire.

Mounted in conservation board, and cellophaned for protection. Image within window measures 11cm x 15cm (approximately 4.25 x 6 inches).
