Scarborough heraldic Coat of Arms with parrots. Catton c1790
by Catton, Charles/Chesham
Scarborough antique print. Motto, Murus aeneus conscientia sana (A sound conscience is a wall of brass).
Original copperplate engraving by draughtsman, etcher, line and aquatint engraver Francis Chesham (1749-1806) from a drawing by Charles Catton (1756-1819) for The English Peerage published in London circa 1790. The fine later hand-colour certainly adds to the appeal of this small engraving on 18th century hand-made paper.
This small coat of arms has been mounted between 'antique white' ragmat conservation board, and cellophaned for protection, the mount image window is 11cm x 17cm (4.25 x 6.75 inches). External mount for frame window measures approximately 242 x 306 (9.5 x 12 inches).
