Original copperplate engraving by Étienne Louis Crepy (c1700-1759) of medallions in honour of French playwright and poet, Jean-Baptiste Rousseau (1671-1741), and French author, Bernard le Bovier de Fontenelle (1657-1757) who demystified science for the public. The heads and obverse sides of these 1730 medallions depict Baroque images of the gods and graces, and musical instruments and costumes. Printed on hand-laid paper, publilshed by Tissot c1775 with soft colour highlighting and complimenting the subjects.
Size to intaglio impression is 195 x 160mm (7.75 x 6.25 inches). Page size is 305 x 210mm (12 x 8.25 inches).
