by Charles Catton/Frances Chesham

Antique print of Ducie Coat of Arms c1790. Motto “Perseverando” (By persevering - often interpreted as Never Say Die).

Original copperplate engraving by draughtsman, etcher, line and aquatint engraver Francis Chesham (1749-1806) from a drawing by Charles Catton (1756-1819) for The English Peerage published in London circa 1790. Published on hand-laid paper from the period, this small coat of arms has fine later hand-colour that certainly adds to its appeal.

Printed on a half-page this wonderful little engraving has been mounted between 'antique white' ragmat conservation board, and cellophaned for protection. Image within window is approximately 11cm x 15cm (4.25 x 6 inches).
