Digby Heraldic crest, Coat of Arms with Monkeys. c1790
by Charles Catton/Frances Chesham
Antique Print of Coat of Arms for Digby - with Monkeys, and Motto “Deo non fortuna” (From God, not from chance).
Original copperplate engraving by draughtsman, etcher, line and aquatint engraver Francis Chesham (1749-1806) from a drawing by Charles Catton (1756-1819) for The English Peerage published in London circa 1790. Published on 18th century hand-made paper, this small coat of arms has fine later hand-colour - which certainly adds to its appeal.
Printed on a half-page, this early engraving has been mounted between 'antique white' conservation ragmat board, and covered with cellophane for protection until framed.
The engraved image within the mount window measures 115 mm x 175 mm (4.5 x 7 inches). External mount for frame window measures approximately 215 x 280mm (8.5 x 11 inches).
