Charming 18th century engraving. Putti fresco at Pompeii.

Original copperplate-engraved mezzotint c1760 by Rocco Pozzi after a drawing by Francesco Lavega for the most important 18th century documentation of discoveries from archaeological excavations at Pompeii, Ercolano (Herculaneum) and Stabiae (Campania), - hundreds of years after the region was covered when Mt Vesuvius erupted in AD79. With patronage of King Charles II, this delightful engraving was published in Naples between 1757 and 1792 (with later hand-colour).

This engraving is currently half-framed: mounted between antique-white conservation ragmat board, and covered with cellophane for presentation and protection until framed. External size (frame window) 29 x 34cm (11.5 x 13.5 inches).
Each window size is approximately 13 x 18cm (5 x 7 inches).
