Original charming mezzotint engraved on copper c.1760 by Roccus Pozzi after a drawing by Francesco Lavega for the most important eighteenth century recording of archaeological excavations at Pompeii, Ercolano (Herculaneum), and Stabiae(Campania), hundreds of years after these districts were covered by the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in AD79. With patronage of King Charles II, published in Naples between 1757 and 1792. (The later hand-colour much enhances this series of charming little engravings.

This engraving is currently half-framed: mounted between antique-white conservation ragmat board, and covered with cellophane for presentation and protection until framed. External size (frame window) 29 x 34cm (11.5 x 13.5 inches).
Each window size is approximately 13 x 18cm (5 x 7 inches).
