Original mezzotint engraved on copper c.1757 by Roccus Pozzi after a drawing by Francesco Lavega for the most important eighteenth century recording of archaeological excavations at Pompeii, Ercolano (Herculaneum), and Stabiae(Campania), hundreds of years after these districts were covered by the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in AD79. With patronage of King Charles II, published in Naples circa 1760 (The later hand-colour much enhances this series of charming little engravings.

This delightful engraving is mounted between 'antique white' conservation rag mat board, and covered with cellophane for protection. Engraving to plate mark: 11 x 16cm. Mounted window size 13 x 18cm (5 1/8 x 7 1/8 inches). External size for frame window is 29 x 34cm (11.5 x 13.5 inches).

The engraving is currently half-framed: mounted between antique-white conservation ragmat board, and covered with cellophane for presentation and protection until framed. External size (frame window) 29 x 34cm (11.5 x 13.5 inches).
Each window size is approximately 13 x 18cm (5 x 7 inches). These 4 Pairs of Putti Playing would look wonderful together in one frame. If buying all 4, p without matts would be $440.
