Beautiful gold-framed antique print. Pair of Raphael frescoes from two sides of a pilaster (pillar) in the Loggia to the private residence at the Vatican. Exquisitely engraved and hand-coloured with thick gouache watercolour, this is an original copperplate engraving by draughtsman, artist, etcher and engraver Carlo Lasinio (1759-1838).
Raphael Vatican artwork devised for the frescoes by the High Renaissance artist, Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino (1483-1520), who supervised their painting by his artisans during the last two years of his life. One engraving of a pair of Raphael pilaster frescoes for Logge del Vaticano (Loggia of the Vatican), published in Rome c.1787 by Niccola de Antoni and in Paris c.1802 by Pierre Philippe Choffard. Pairs of the pilaster frescos were engraved, half the size of the grand single pilasters published in Rome between 1772 and 1777 for Delle Loggie di Raffaello nel Vaticano (Of the Loggia by Raphael at the Vatican).
