Antique print 70 of Trajan's Column classical relief. One of the series of engravings, that make up the continuous depictions of the campaigns of the 1st century AD Emperor Trajan, representing one of the greatest relief sculptures ever carved. The victorious campaigns against the Dacians who were defeated in 104AD by Emperor Marcus Ulpius Trajanus (52-117AD), who subsequently became Emperor in 98AD. Today, on top of Trajan's Column in Rome is a statue of St Peter, which replaces the statue of the emperor, that was destroyed in the middle-ages.

Original (hand-coloured) copperplate engraving circa 1673, by Roman artist-engraver Pietro Santi Bartoli (1635-1700), who studied painting in Paris with eminent artists Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665) and Pierre Lemaire (1612-1688). Bartoli aspired to the essence of Raphael’s superb classical frescoes at the Vatican.
