Rare Raphael Arch from Vatican. Raphael fresco engraving c1777.

by Raphael Sanzio da Urbino

Raphael Arch fresco from the Vatican. Stunning antique print of Raphael fresco with garlands of fruit and flowers, and friezes with gods, graces, and mythical beasts decorate a magnificent fresco, devised by Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino (1483-1520) and painted at the Vatican during 1518 and 1519.

This is stunning artwork! Superbly hand-coloured with gouache and watercolour, this original copperplate engraving is by the eminent Italian engraver Joannes Ottaviani (1735-1808), after a drawing by draughtsman-artist Gaetano Savorelli (fl.1750-1775), and architect Petrus Camporesi, for Le Logge di Rafaele nel Vaticano (The Loggia by Raphael at the Vatican), a wonderful series of engravings showing Raphael frescos from the Vatican. Published in Rome circa 1772-1777 by order of Pope Clement XIII.

We have 4 arches from this series. Image size approximately 330 x 570 mm (13 x 22.5 in). (This engraving, superbly framed, is available below.) We have other grand works by Raphael, so if you are looking for something really special, please contact us.
