Beautiful fresco of maidens and men, antique print. Raphael decoration of Palacio Sixta, built by Pope Sixtus V in the 16th century.. (Residence of the Pope. Sundays at noon the Pope stands at the window and blesses the crowd that gathers in the Vatican square.)

Original copperplate engraving by Bartoli, published between 1670 and 1677. Pietro Santi Bartoli (1635-1700) studied painting in Paris with eminent artists Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665) and Pierre Lemaire (1612-1688), and aspired to achieve the beauty and essence of Raphael’s superb classical frescos. This one is particularly fine, and in excellent condition - with usual slight stretching of the paper during printing. Uncoloured, as published.

Mounted between antique white conservation ragmat board, with double mount with window.
