French and English Ornate Mirrors. 2 engravings. Enry Shaw c1834

by Shaw, Henry

A beautiful pair of gilt wall mirrors - the left one is English; the right one is French.
1. Looking glass, of the time of Queen Elizabeth, drawn and engraved by Henry Shaw.
2. French Looking Glass from Willemin's "Monumens Francais inedits".

Both are original steel engravings by Henry Shaw (1800-73) for “Specimens of Ancient Furniture drawn from Existing Authorities by Henry Shaw F.S.A.” published in London circa 1836 by William Pickering (1796-1854) of Chancery Lane.

The hand-tinting of later date with watercolour, is beautifully done, in complimentary style to the pale red ink of the printed engraving. The scanned image does not do them justice. (There are no vertical lines through the glass of these mirrors.) Two engravings for this price.

Page size (each) is 28cm x 20cm (11 x 8 inches).
