Heraldic Coat of Arms. Maynard Crest with deer & dog. Catton c1790

Heraldic Coat of Arms. Maynard Crest with deer & dog. Catton c1790

by Catton, Charles/Chesham

Antique Print of Coat of Arms for Maynard. Motto “Manus justa nardus” (A just hand is a precious ointment).

Original copperplate engraving by draughtsman, etcher, line and aquatint engraver Francis Chesham (1749-1806) from a drawing by Charles Catton (1756-1819) for “The English Peerage" published in London circa 1790 (later hand-colour).

Published on hand-made paper from the period, this small coat of arms has been separated at some time from the one that would have been above it on the same engraved plate. The hand-colour certainly adds to the appeal of this wonderful image. We have a number of Coats of Arms with Mottos from this series. Please enquire.

Mounted in conservation board, and cellophaned for protection. Image within window measures 105 mm x 175 mm (approximately 4 x 7 inches).
