Rare miniature illustrated poem: Play, or appreciate nature..

"Turn little Sportsmen, turn thine eye
To wound the gaudy butterfly;
And thus prepare thy playful aim
For future Years more tempting game."

Fine original hand-coloured stippled copperplate engravings by English portrait painter, John Samuel Agar (1773-1858) from the drawings by Edward Francis Burney for Forget Me Not, an anthology of poems relating to the months of the year. Agar exhibited at the Royal Academy, and was president of the Society of Engravers. These exquisite little engravings were published in London circa 1823 by Rudolf Ackermann.

Each delightful little poem with its illustration is superbly framed with conservation materials and French gilt carved moulding. The 12 will look wonderful hung together! The framed set is available (listed previously) - until the first single month is sold.
All12 small engravings have been mounted between 'antique white' conservation ragmat mounts, with upper mount window embellished by a gold line, with U/V protective glass. Each page size is 13cm x 8cm. Each external frame size is 280 x 235mm (11 x 9 3/4 inches).
