Peek-a-Boo Picnic interruption. Bees like Sweet Oranges. Lithograph c1912
by Preston, Chloe
Peek-a-Boo and Puppy's Pesky Picnic Problem. Antique print.
Chloe Preston colour-printed lithograph for The Peek-a-Boo's Holiday, written by her brother Tom Preston and published in London circa 1912. Illustrations for the Preston children's first book The Peek-a-Boo's, were published in London in 1910.
The children grew up in a gentrified English country environment. Chloe Preston was born in 1887 and loved drawing from a young age. Her brother had a good imagination - and they both were encouraged to use their talents.
The clear simple outlines of the figures, and the bright colours of the images against a plain background, all clearly and simply portray possible excursions, lending humour to each activity... and learning about possibilities in every joyful situation. These beautiful lithographs have always been collected - by adults as well as children.
