Original fine antique engraving by Milton circa1813 (later fine hand-colour). Between 1812 and 1820 Abraham Rees published The Cyclopaedia; or, Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences and Literature, illustrating where possible the Linnaean System of classification. This gorgeous engraving was published by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme & Brown of Paternoster Row, London.
By far the most extensive encyclopedia of the 19th century. Seven large volumes contained over 240 full size copperplate engravings in each volume, illustrated with exquisitely engraved and arranged species of each subject - usually several to each page.
