Joseph Paxton (1803-1865) started as a gardener when 15. His enthusiasm, hard work and skill were rewarded by his employment from the age of 23 as Head Gardener of the Duke of Devonshire’s Chatsworth estate, one of England’s finest gardens. Usually considered a landscape gardener, Paxton’s diverse abilities included architecture and engineering, particularly designing glasshouses. His design for a large glass house conservatory at Chatsworth became a model for Paxton’s design of the Crystal Palace for the London Exhibition of 1851. The new concept of prefabricated regular sized materials allowed the building to be erected in under 8 months. Both Paxton and the construction manager received knighthoods for their achievements.

This is a lovely pair of engravings. The Boronia is in good condition. Unfortunately the right side of the page is somewhat bent. The reduced price is for the whole page. Size of page 230 x150mm ( 9 x 6 inches)
