Half-framed Sandersha Mango lithograph by Newton c1907.

Half-framed Sandersha Mango lithograph by Newton c1907.

by Newton, Amanda Almira

Charming halved-Mango antique print for Department of Agriculture.

This is a lovely colour-printed mango lithograph by Amanda Almira Newton who was an artist with the United States Department of Agriculture Division of Pomology. Scientifically accurate and wonderfully graphic this mango antique print was published in New York in 1907.

Between 1897 and 1925 Yearbooks were published to promoted the wide range of fruit that was being cultivated in the United States. Artists employed by the department to do watercolours and lithographs for illustrations. As they were published essentially to promote the growing of fruit in the United States, there was not an enormous circulation, so these beautiful illustrations are rarely seen today.

In fine condition, 23 x 14cm (9 x 5.5 inches). This lovely lithograph is mounted with antique white conservation ragmat board and covered with cellophane for presentation and protection until framed. (Mount is too large for scanner. Please see above  'Half-framed Champion Peach'.) The external size of the matt for framing window is 340 x 255mm (5 1/2 x 10 inches).
