18th century botanical study of a maple tree.

Original copperplate engraving with etched outline and contemporary interior tones - one of the earliest examples of colour-printing with watercolour from a single plate (hand-finished). Published between 1737-1745 for Phytanthoza Iconographia, sive conspectus aliquot millium, tam indigenarum quam exoticarum, ex quatuor mundi partibus... plantarum, arborum, fruticum, florum, fructuum, fungorum, &c. (Phythanthoza Iconographia, or comprehensive survey of thousands of native and foreign plants, from all four corners of the world, the result of many years of tireless study... Plants, Trees, Shrubs, Herbs, Flowers, Fruits and Mushrooms...) by Regensburg apothecary Johann Willhelm Weinmann (1683-1741).

Printed on hand-laid paper, this antique print is in very good condition except for a little faint foxing. Page size is 15 inches x 9.5 inches (38 x 24cm).
