One of five volumes of lithographs for The Flowering Plants, Grasses, Sedges, and Ferns of Great Briatin and their allies The Club Mosses, Horsetails, &c. published from 1860 by the London Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, it was acknowledged as one of the most popular botanical works of its time.

Anne Pratt (1806-1893) wrote and illustrated more than 20 books on botany, and was one of a few very special female botanical artists who were sickly children and became skilful in painting the nature of their countryside. Anne Pratt was taught botany by a family friend, Dr. Dods, and one of her sisters collected the plants for her to sketch and paint. Anne Pratt was awarded a grant from Britain's civil list in recognition of her contribution to the general knowledge and love of botany in Britain.
