Beautiful original stipple engraving, printed in colour and finished by hand, by Édouard Auguste Patrice Hocquart (1789-1870) for Phytographie Médicale, Materia Medica.. (Medical Phytography, Materia Medica. A History of Powerful Substances and Poisons from the Plant Kingdom) by Joseph R. Roques, published in Paris between 1821 and 1870. The small engraving at the base of the plant shows the flower, uncoloured.

This plate is in fine condition except for a soiling spot at top right corner of page. Size, approximately 31 x 23cm (12 x 9 7/8 inches).
