Original copperplate engraving by F. Hilliard for the encyclopedia of herbal knowledge, The Universal Herbal, or, Botanical, Medical and Agricultural Dictionary by Thomas Green. This important early 19th century herball contained an account of all the known plants in the world arranged according to the Linnean System, specifying the uses to which they are or may be applied, wether as food, as medicine, or in the arts or manufactures, with the best methods of propagation and the most recent agricultural Improvements. Published in Liverpool by Nuttall, Fisher & Dixon circa 1817 (later hand colour).
