Superb Cattleya Orchid by American artist, Charles Storer.

Original chromolithograph by Gustav Leutzsch after Charles Storer for Reichenbachia: Orchids Illustrated and Described published in London between 1888 and 1894 by Hanover-born nurseryman Henry Frederick Conrad Sander (1847-1920). Sander’s ambitious orchid monograph was named Reichenbachia after Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach (1824-1889), a German botanist who devoted his life to studying orchids.

Born in Boston, Charles Storer (1817-1907) was an American artist who was a member of the Boston Art Club from 1895 to 1904 and also exhibited at the National Academy of Design. From 1895, Storer had his artist studio in the Conrad Building in Providence, Rhode Island. Although he excelled in landscapes and still-life paintings, Storer was one of the most prominent New England flower artists and became best known for his finely detailed drawings and watercolours of orchids. Cattleya Rochellensis was the only Charles Storer orchid lithographed for the Reichenbachia collection of illustrations. The artist signed the lithographic plate to show approval of the lithograph made from his watercolour.

Page size is 530 x 395 mm (20.75 x 15.5 inches). This lithograph is in fine condition.
