Antique print of Perouse's Voyage Chilean native 'Guilboqui'.

Original copperplate engraving by James Heath (1757-1834) from a drawing by Guillaume Prevost 'oncle', for The Account of the Voyage of Jean-François Galaup-La Pérouse (1785-1788), published in London circa 1798.  Guillaume Prevost was botanical artist on L'Astrolabe. He was known during the voyage as "the uncle". His 'very young' nephew Jean-Louis-Robert Prevost was botanical illustrator aboard La Boussole.

Until his disappearance shortly after leaving the new British settlement at Botany Bay, La Perouse sent to Paris many reports, charts and drawings of the discoveries during his voyage. First published in Paris in 1797, Le Voyage de La Pérouse Autour du Monde, Publié Conformément au Décret du 22 Avril 1791, et Rédigé par M.L.A. Baron de Milet-Mureau was translated and published in London the in 1798 by G.G. & J. Robinson of PaterNoster Row, as The Account of the Voyage of La Perouse.

This beautiful 18th century antique print has been superbly hand-coloured with watercolour since publication. Page size 435 x 270mm (17 1/8 x 10 5/8 inches). To plate mark is 345 x 250mm (13 1/2 x 9 3/4 inches).

Printing faults at left border, so price reduced.
