Antique print of Green Parrot and Mascarene Parrot from the Mascarene Islands of La Réunion east of Madagascar.

With beautiful original hand-colour, this French engraving by Madame Thorel followed the drawing by eminent natural history artist, Edouard Travies (1809-1859). It was published in Paris c1837 by Lacapede who worked with Buffon until his death, and later updated the Complete Works of Buffon. Travies worked with eminent scientists and exhibited his work at the Paris Salon.

Although the beautiful hand-colour is crisp and was done at the time of publication, there is slight age-discolouration of the paper. The page size is 245 x 160mm. This lovely print is partially framed, mounted between 'antique white' ragmat conservation board. The window size is 180 x 120mm (7 x 4 3/4 inches). External size for frame is 300 x 240mm.
