Original fine hand-coloured steel engraving by Edinburgh engraver William Home Lizars (1788-1859) for Sir William Jardine’s Naturalist’s Library’ 'Gallinaceous Birds' in the series of Ornithology, printed in Edinburgh circa 1840 by W.H. Lizars. The small beautifully coloured engravings of birds by Lizars are considered by many to be the most exquisitely engraved and coloured miniature portraits of birds that have ever been done.

Superb engraving and of course, much more beautiful than the scanned image. Page size is 17 x 10cm (6.6.x 4 inches). Mounted between antique-white coloured rag-matt conservation boards, & covered in cellophane for protection/presentation, the external measurement for framing is 28 x 22cm (11 x 8.6 inches)
