This lovely lithograph was published in London for The History of the Birds of Europe by Henry Eeles Dresser (1838-1915).
Born in Ireland, William Matthew Hart began his artistic career as a colourist of Humming Birds for John Gould (1804-1881). Hart developed exceptional artistic skill, and became John Gould's principal artist for Gould's last grand publication, illustrating The Birds of New Guinea and Adjacent Papuan Islands, including many new species recently discovered in Australia. Unknown for many years while illustrating birds in Edward Booth's Museum, Edward Neale was an exceptional English bird artist.
Print only size is 22 x 27cm (8 5/8 x 10 5/8 inches).
This lovely antique print is currently half-framed with complimentary style and colour of decorated-mount, with backboard ($220, ready for frame and glass, which could saving greatly with cost of framing.
