L'Aigle Royal. The Royal Eagle c1857 (great with next)
by Travies, Edouard
Royal Eagle antique print. Paquien engraving after Travies.
The beautiful hand-colour of the subject highlights this grand bird against the subtle detail of the background habitat. Travies has captured the grandeur of this superb-looking eagle!
This fine steel engraving by Paquien is after a drawing by the French watercolourist, draughtsman and lithographer, Édouard Traviés de Villers (1809-1876). Travies was one of the finest scientific illustrators of the 19th century. He exhibited his work at the French Salon between 1831 and 1866, but he is better known today for his excellent draughtsmanship which improved the quality of a number of long-running illustrated nature publications. Travies was much in demand, but his preferred subject, at which he really excelled, was the representation of wildlife.
This is a beautiful engraving. The page is in fine condition. Page size: 265 x 175mm (approximately 10.5 x 11 inches).
