John Gould Alpine Swift, Cypsellus Melba, hand-coloured lithograph c1865.

by Gould, John

The Alpine Swift flies a vast distance, in particular when it flies each summer from Africa to Europe, where it often nests in church steeples.

Original hand-coloured lithograph by Henry Constantine Richter from the drawing by 'The Bird Man' John Gould for "Birds of Great Britain" published in London between 1862 and 1873. John Gould (1804-1881) employed the best lithographers to create large hand-coloured lithographs that are some of the finest bird illustrations ever done. Gould had an excellent eye for detail, and closely supervised the work of his lithographers.

This lithograph is in good condition. Unfortunately our scanner is not large enough to show the full length of the lithograph which is as issued, 30 x 37cm (21 x 14.5 inches). If you would like further pics, please email us at sales@antiqueprintclub.com.
