Stunning Edgemont Peaches antique print c1917. (half-price)
by Hedrick, U.P.
Fine antique print of Peaches. Photolithography c1917.
Original 4-colour-printed photolithograph c1917 for the United States Department of Agriculture's The Peaches of New York by horticulturist, Ulysses Hedrick. Published by Zeese-Wilkinson Company, each fruit was photographed with four colour-record negatives to be able to produce the final colour plate for printing. They are among the finest illustrations to be published, prior to full photographic technology being introduced.
Ulysses Prentiss Hedrick (1870-1951) was continuing the work of earlier horticulturists in recording the produce that was cultivated in New York. The first Station horticulturist in 1833, Emmet S. Goff (1852-1902), was followed by Spencer Ambrose Beach (1860-1922). The U.S. Department of Agriculture employed artists to produce watercolours to illustrate their works. Earlier smaller illustrations were colour-printed lithographs printed for circulation.
