Queen Elizabeth. The Founder of Our Colonial Empire.
by Fry, William Thomas
Discounted, damaged, Queen Elizabeth, antique print. J&F Tallis 1850.
Engraved by W.T. Fry from the original of Zucchero in the collection of The Most Noble The Marquis of Salisbury.
The last Tudor monarch, Elizabeth (1533-1603), ruled from 1558 until 1603. Exquisitely engraved by William Thomas Fry from the painting by Italian artist Federico Zucchero (c1541-1609), this portrait was published c1850 by J. & F. Tallis, London & New York. It is surrounded by finely engraved border representing jewels and drapes with braids and tassles below, all surmounted by coat of arms. Fine later hand-colour.
It is unfortunately missing the lower left corner, has a light diagonal fold at lower left, and has slight age soiling. Hence the very low price for a wonderful engraving. Size: 27.3 x 8 cm (10 3/4 x 7 1/8 inches)
