by John Tallis & Company

Antique print of township of Buninyong in Victoria.

At the foot of Mt Buninyong, the old volcano that marks the country of the Wathaurung people, Buninyong was established in 1851, 11km from the gold-rush town of Ballarat.

Fine original steel engraving, drawn and engraved by Henry Winkles for Montgomery Martin's Australia, comprising New South Wales, Victoria or Port Phillip, South Australia and Western Australia, which was printed circa1856 by the London Printing and Publishing Company (partnership established in 1853 by John Tallis and Ephraim Tipton Brain).

Page size is approximately 20 x 27cm (8 x 10.5 inches). This is a fine engraving with lovely later colour, but unfortunately the edge of the page has received some damage - which will mostly be hidden when framed). The top left corner is slightly bent, with small conservation-repaired tear, there is further tiny repair at right edge, and below title has slightly rubbed surface.
