Original copperplate engraving circa 1779 by J. Royce from a drawing by John Carter (1748-1817). From 1780 Carter was draughtsman for the Society of Antiquaries, for whom he drew and etched a series of finely-engraved illustrations of the ancient architecture of England. John Carter was elected fellow of the Society of Antiquaries in 1795.
