Original copperplate engravings c1811 by eminent natural history illustrator Mrs Griffith for General Zoology: or Systematic Natural History by George Shaw, M.D.F.R.S.&c. with Plates from the first Authorities and most select specimens. Published by George Kearsley, Fleet Street & the other Proprietors between 1800 and 1825.

George Shaw (1751-1813) was one of the founding members of the Linnean Society of London. Shaw was appointed Assistant Keeper of the Natural History section of the British Museum in 1807 and remained in the post until his death. He gave lectures to the Royal Institution twice, in 1807 and 1808.

This antique print has paper tone discolouration down left side and also at right. Later hand-colour. [220 x 130 mm] (8.5 x 5.25 inches)
