Antique engraving of Scenes in the Caroline Islands. There is partial text at the base right of the top half of the page. The upper engraving is of The Reverend T. M'Cullagh, President of the Wesleyan Methodist Conference. Most of the text is about the Wesleyan-Methodist Conference.

Original engraving from The Illustrated London News periodical, the world's first graphic newspaper. It was set up in 1842 by Herbert Ingram (who was succeeded by members of his family). From the time of the introduction of engraved illustrations to the newspaper, illustrated news became popular with all levels of society, with many thousands of copies printed each edition (in particular when there was news of wars or new discoveries around the world. Engraved illustrations of events and discoveries from around the world were avidly collected, and often clipped out and coloured for further enjoyment.

Unfortunately this interesting page has conservation-repaired tears on both vertical edges and at the base... hence much reduced price. Page size is 405 x 280 mm (16 x 11 inches).
