Great Black Cockatoo. Palm Cockatoo by Lydon c1884

Great Black Cockatoo. Palm Cockatoo by Lydon c1884

by Lydon, Alexander Francis

Antique print of Palm Cockatoo or Goliath Cockatoo (Probosciger aterrimus).

This North Queensland and Papua New Guinea bird is endangered in the wild. Birds captured for breeding purposes are found to be affectionate and 'needy'... It likes companionship and hours of attention. It is full of character and has a very loud voice. In the wild it drums with its beak on a hollow log to attract a mate. I must try that some time!

Colour-printed woodblock by draughtsman and painter, Alexander Francis Lydon (1836-1917), printed in colour by Benjamin Fawcett (1803-1893) for William Thomas Greene's Parrots in Captivity, published in London between 1883 and 1887 by George Bell.

This print is in good condition except for slight extremity damage which would be covered when framed. (Price reduced.) Page size is 25 x 17cm (9 7/8 x 6 5/8 inches).
