Australian Cockatiel. Woodblock by Lydon, printed by Fenjamin Fawcett for Greene c1884.

by Lydon, Alexander Francis

Antique print of Nymphicus hollandicus Cockatiel, also known as Quarrion or Weiro.

Original woodblock by draughtsman and painter Alexander Francis Lydon (1836-1917). Printed in colour by Benjamin Fawcett (1808-1893) for William Thomas Greene's Parrots in Captivity published in London between 1883 and 1887 by George Bell.

This is a delightful study of this lovely bird which is usually only seen in captivity even here in Australia, as they live in the arid dry country near waterholes, and are certainly not to be seen flying free in city areas.

This print is in good condition except for evidence of previous framing tape at very top of page. This of course would not show when it is framed. Page size is 25 x 17cm (9 7/8 x 6 5/8 inches).
