John Gould Nyroca Leucophthalmos, Ferruginous Duck or White-eyed Pochard lithograph c1870.

by Gould, John

Original John Gould hand-coloured lithograph of a lovely Ferruginous Duck. A beautiful ornithological study, c1870 - since renamed Aythya nyroca or Fuligule nyroca. By any other name it is a charming bird study!

Original hand-coloured lithograph by Henry Constantine Richter after the great bird artist Josef Wolf for 'The Bird Man' John Gould's "Birds of Great Britain" published in London between 1862 and 1873. John Gould employed the finest lithographers of the day to create large hand-coloured lithographs that are some of the finest bird illustrations ever done. John Gould had an excellent eye for detail, and closely supervised the work of his lithographers.

This is a delightful duck illustration. Unfortunately our scanner is not large enough to show the full lithograph which is (as issued) 37 x 30cm (14.5 x 21 inches). If you would like further pics, please email us at sales@antiqueprintclub.com.
