Small antique print of Golden Eagle c1857.

Original hand-coloured wood engraving c1857 by Alexander Francis Lydon (1836-1917), printed by Benjamin Fawcett (1808-1893) (who was the most accomplished of the 19th century woodblock printers) for English cleric, ornithologist and founder of the Royal Society for Protection of Birds, and Member of the Ashmolean Society, the Reverend Francis Orpen Morris, B.A. (1810-1895), for the most popular bird book of the Victorian era in Britain, A History of British Birds, published in London by Groombridge and Sons of Paternoster Row. F.O. Morris wrote the text for books which were financed and printed by Fawcett and illustrated by Alexander Francis Lydon (1836-1917).

Approximately 7 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches (22 x 21.5 cm). There is a foxing spot at upper left. Price has been adjusted accordingly.
