Heraldry. Maynard Coat of Arms, Deer and Dog. c1790

by Catton, Charles/Chesham

Antique Print of Coat of Arms for Maynard. Motto “Manus justa nardus” (A just hand is a precious ointment).

Original copperplate engraving by draughtsman, etcher, line and aquatint engraver Francis Chesham (1749-1806) from a drawing by Charles Catton (1756-1819) for The English Peerage published in London circa 1790. Published on hand-laid paper from the period, this small coat of arms has fine later hand-colour that certainly adds to its appeal.

It would have been engraved and printed with another, on the same page. This small engraving has been separated and mounted between 'antique white' ragmat conservation board, and cellophaned for protection. Image within window is105 mm x 175 mm (4 x 7 inches) - approximately.
