Original hand-coloured lithograph published in Germany circa 1827 by lithographer, printer and bookseller, Karl Joseph Brodtmann (1787-1862) for Naturhistorische Bilder-Gallerie aus dem Thierreiche (Natural History Gallery of the Animal Kingdom). Joseph Brodtmann had a distinctive style and excelled in his finely detailed, accurately drawn, sympathetic illustrations of animals. He was born in Germany but spent much of his life in Zurich and Schaffhausen in Switzerland. He lived there until his death.
