A fine original hand-coloured copperplate engraving from a series engraved by Pauquet, Madame Thorel, Massard, Oudet, LeBrun, LeGrand and Guyard after the drawings by Meunier, Jean-Gabriel Pretre, Edouard Travies and Chazal, published in Paris circa 1840 by Pourrat Brothers for Suites a Buffon by Zoology Professor, Paris Natural History Museum, Bernard Germain Etienne de la Ville sur Illon, Comte de Lacepede (1756-1825), updating the most comprehensive 18th century French ornithological colourplate series, Histoire Naturelle Generale et Particuliere avec la description du cabinet du roi (Natural History, General and Particular), originally published between 1765 and 1780 by Georg-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon (1707-1788).
