Original colour-printed lithograph by Vincent Brooks, Day & Son, after the oil painting by George Stubbs. Published for S. Sidney’s The Book of the Horse printed by Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co of London, Paris and New York circa 1874.

At the end of the nineteenth century, the quality of superb chromolithographic illustrations for publication was exceptional. Many of the colour-printed lithographs for Cassells Book of the Horse were finished with hand-colour and highlighting. They are some of the finest illustrations that have ever been printed of horses.

Image measures approximately 17 x 22cm (approximately 6 ¾ x 8 ¾ inches). Page size is 21 x 27cm (8 ¼ x 10 5/8 inches). In very good condition except for a slight tear at the left edge which has been reinforced by conservation repair tape. It would not show when framed.
