Original colour-printed lithograph by Vincent Brooks, Day & Son, after an 1873 oil painting by Sheldon Williams, for Samuel Sidney’s The Book of the Horse printed by Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co of London, Paris and New York circa 1874.

At the end of the 19th century, the quality of superb chromolithographic illustrations for publication was exceptional. Many of the colour-printed lithographs for Cassells Book of the Horse were finished with hand-colour and highlighting. They are some of the finest illustrations that have ever been printed of horses.

In fine condition, the image measures 16.5 x 22cm (6 1/12 x  8 5/8 inches). Page size is 21 x 27cm (8 ¼ x 10 5/8 inches).
