Mr.Lindoe's Irish Water Spaniels

Mr.Lindoe's Irish Water Spaniels "Rake" and "Blarney" c1878

by A. Baker

Antique print of Irish Water Spaniels c1878.

Original hand-colored wood engraving circa 1878 by Butterworth and Heath after a drawing by A. Baker for "The Dogs of the British Isles" first published circa 1867 by John Henry Walsh (1810-1888). Most of the excellent illustrations for this publication were given an appropriate background, that adds considerable charm to each animal study.

Walsh was educated for the medical profession, and practised for some years as a surgeon. His passion was field sport, and as a sporting writer, he wrote many articles and books under the pen-name “Stonehenge”.  He was an expert in the management of dogs and the treatment of their illnesses. In 1856 Walsh joined the staff of "The Field" journal, and by the end of the following year became its editor.

The price of this engraving has been reduced as there is a slight crease across the paper a little below the title, and there is slight foxing, but none of these flaws would intrude on the image when framed. Page size 18 x 24cm (7 x 9.5 inches)
