Rare stipple engraving with contemporary hand-colour by Jean-Baptiste Audebert (1759-1800) for HistoireNaturelle des Singes et des Makis Peintres d’apres Nature (Natural History of the Monkeys and Lemurs Painted after Nature) published in Paris circa 1800.

This wonderful early pigmentation has oxidized to the reverse side of the page. There is slight foxing within the area of the image and the page edges are foxed and slightly damaged - all emphasizing the age of this superb engraving.

The intaglio impression of the engraving is almost at the edge of the page. Page size is 545 x 360mm (approximately 21.5 x 14.25 inches)
