Rare 18th century stipple engraving with contemporary hand-colour by Jean-Baptiste Audebert (1759-1800) for Histoire Naturelle des Singes et des Makis Peintres d’apres Nature (Natural History of the Monkeys and Lemurs Painted after Nature) published in Paris circa 1799.

The pigmentation has oxidized to the reverse of the page - which is to be expected; but there is also offset of colour from the adjacent image. The price is further reduced in consideration of the general condition of the page - all of which of course emphasizes the age of this superb engraving.

The intaglio impression of the engraving is almost at the edge of the page. Page size is 545 x 360mm (approximately 21.5 x 14.25 inches)
