Rare 18th century stipple engraving with contemporary hand-colour of this fine animal engraved by Jean-Baptiste Audebert (1759-1800) for Histoire Naturelle des Singes et des Makis Peintres d’apres Nature (Natural History of the Monkeys and Lemurs Painted after Nature) published in Paris circa 1799.

The wonderful early pigmentation has oxidized to the reverse of this page. There is also offsetting from the (previous) adjacent page, slight foxing within the area of the image, and the page edges are foxed and damaged - all emphasizing the age of this superb engraving.

The intaglio impression of the engraving is almost at the edge of the page. Page size is 545 x 360mm (approximately 21.5 x 14.25 inches)
