Finely engraved botanical illustration of Australian native shrub.

The wonderful hand-coloured engraving of Morinda jasminoides, with dissections below the flower and foliage, is accompanied by the followibng grandiloquent description: "A volubilous suffruticose plant, rare in shaded brushes of the Colony of Port Jackson, where it was detected by Mr. Allan Cunningham, bearing its orange-coloured berries in the month of March, 1821, by whom it was introduced to Kew, from which collection we have been favoured with specimens, that flowered in April, 1833."

Original finely engraved antique print by Joseph Swan (1796-1872) after a drawing by the eminent botanist, William Jackson Hooker (1785-1865). Published by Samuel Curtis in 1834 for Curtis's Botanical Magazine. With illustrations of botanical specimens from around the world, accompanied by information on their cultivation in England, William Curtis first published The Botanical Magazine in 1787. Still published today (now The Kew Magazine) it is the longest running continuously publlished illustrated botanical publication in the world.

Mounted between 'antique white' conservation ragmat with green-painted bevel-cut edge to the window beautifully complimenting this illustrated botanical specimen, and descriptive accompanying text hinged to the rear, it is covered in cellophane for presentation and protection until framed.  (this is a lovely pair to the following, Alyxia Daphnoides, Norfolk Island Dogbane.

Size of page 230 x 150mm (9 x 6 inches). The external size for frame window is 340 x 260mm (13 3/8 x 10 1/4 inches).
