by Edwards, Sydenham
Beautiful Australian Heron, Governor Phillip's Journal antique print.
Original copperplate engraving by talented young Welsh engraver, Sydenham Edwards, after a drawing by Ann Latham for Voyage of Governor Phillip to Botany Bay; with an Account of the Establishment of the Colonies of Port Jackson & Norfolk Island printed in London by John Stockdale, the year after the successful establishment of the new colony at Sydney Cove in 1788. The account was illustrated, mostly after drawings and specimens sent back to London by Surgeon General John White. Phillip's Account was published in two states, one with the plates uncoloured, and another (a deluxe edition with very few copies) with hand-coloured illustrations. This engraving has later colour. Butler.
